Who Should
(and Shouldn't)
Do An EMDR Intensive
The Full Story
While I specialize in doing EMDR Intensives, you may also just want extended time to process and work through pressing issues. I want to be transparent in sharing that not everyone is appropriate to have an EMDR Intensive experience however. Below are things to consider before you book a consultation for an EMDR intensive experience.
How an EMDR Intensive Can Complement Ongoing Therapy
An EMDR intensive isn’t a replacement for traditional therapy—it’s a powerful enhancement. Many clients who already work with a therapist find that an intensive helps them break through roadblocks and accelerate their healing process.
Benefits of Adding an EMDR Intensive to Your Current Therapy:
✅ Faster Breakthroughs: Instead of waiting weeks between sessions, an intensive allows you to process deeper trauma in a condensed time, making progress faster.
✅ Targets Stuck Points: If you've been working on the same issue for months, an intensive can help resolve underlying trauma that may be keeping you stuck.
✅ More Time for Processing: Traditional 50-minute sessions may not provide enough time to fully process distressing memories. A longer session allows for complete processing in one sitting.
✅ Enhances Work with Your Current Therapist: You’ll return to your regular sessions with greater insight, clarity, and emotional relief, helping you move forward in therapy more effectively.
✅ Provides Focused Healing: Weekly therapy is great for ongoing support, but an intensive provides deep, uninterrupted healing, ideal for those looking to work through a significant issue.
✅ Supports Emotional Regulation: By integrating mindfulness and polyvagal-informed strategies, an intensive can help improve emotional regulation, making future therapy sessions more effective.
✅ Customized to Your Needs: Whether you need a half-day, full-day, or multi-day intensive, sessions are tailored to your goals, helping you maximize results in a short period.
If you’re already working with a therapist, an EMDR intensive can be a powerful addition to your healing journey. It’s designed to complement your existing work, giving you the momentum needed to create lasting change.

Who is Appropriate for an EMDR Intensive Experience?
✅ Highly motivated individuals who are ready to dive deep into trauma healing.
✅ Busy professionals or parents who prefer a focused, time-efficient approach instead of weekly therapy.
✅ Clients with specific trauma memories they want to process in a structured, intensive format.
✅ Individuals who have tried traditional therapy but feel stuck and need a breakthrough.
✅ Those with strong emotional regulation skills or coping strategies in place.
✅ People with a stable support system (friends, family, or a therapist for post-intensive care).
✅ Individuals comfortable with deep emotional work and processing distressing memories in a short time.
✅ Clients looking for accelerated relief from PTSD, anxiety, or past traumas.
Who is NOT Appropriate for an EMDR Intensive Experience?
❌ Individuals in crisis or currently experiencing suicidal ideation, self-harm, or active substance abuse.
❌ Clients with untreated or severe dissociation disorders (e.g., Dissociative Identity Disorder) without stabilization work.
❌ Those without a strong support system who may struggle post-intensive.
❌ Individuals who are emotionally overwhelmed or have difficulty self-regulating outside of a therapy session.
❌ Anyone seeking a “quick fix” rather than engaging in a long-term healing process.
❌ Clients who require long-term, ongoing therapy due to complex trauma history or severe mental health conditions. If you are not currently working with a therapist, it is recommended that you secure one prior to completing an Intensive. (Please note that I can provide ongoing therapy if I have availability).
